Dacor wall ovens

Dacor oven repair, steam models included

After 12 hours in total of Steam Bake or Steam Roast, a Dacor wall oven lights its Descale indicator, then switches steam off two hours later until a descale runs. We repair Dacor ovens on Oahu and tell lockouts from faults.

Dacor oven codes worth reading first

Dacor prints a first step for each information code. Some clear with a restart; others point at a board or sensor. For a cavity that will not warm at all, see oven not heating.

C-d1, door lock

The lock is out of position. Turn the oven OFF and restart, then cut power for at least 30 seconds.

C-F0 or C-F2

The control boards stopped talking to each other. A repeat after a power reset points to wiring or a board.

C-20, sensor

The oven sensor reads open or shorted, so the control cannot judge cavity heat at all.

C-21, too hot

Internal temperature ran abnormally high. Stop using the oven and book a check.

Descale lit

Steam hours have added up. Run Descale with a steam-oven or coffee-machine descaler only.

Steam greyed out

The two grace hours after the Descale light are used up. Steam returns once the cycle finishes.

Island water

Does Oahu water matter to a steam oven?

It can, through scale. A 1987 USGS report found Hawaii's public supply water generally under 120 mg/L hardness, soft to moderately hard, with median silica above 30 mg/L across the volcanic aquifers. Silica joins calcium and magnesium to form scale, mostly a concern for steam equipment. Those figures are decades old. Still, obey the Descale reminder, and treat a steam mode that stays locked after a full descale as a fault.

What should a new Dacor oven do before cooking?

A new Dacor oven should run a burn-off before cooking: take every accessory out, then Bake at 400°F for 1 hour. Some odor during it is normal. A model such as the 30-inch Transitional DOB30T977SS also arrives with a Wi-Fi 7-inch LCD touch panel, LED-lit knobs and ball-bearing glide racks, and the racks stay out for this step. Smoke that keeps coming back on later bakes is different. Note the mode and temperature, then call.

01

Steam and cleaning

Only a descaler made for steam ovens or coffee machines, according to Dacor's manual.
Yes. The pull-out reservoir feeds Steam Bake, Steam Roast and Steam Proof, and Dacor says to empty it after steam cooking.
Yes, within limits. You choose 2, 3 or 5 hours, and the oven picks 3 if you do not. The door stays locked for the whole cycle. If it stays locked long after cooling, and an OFF and restart does not release it, the lock mechanism is next, often with a C-d1 message.
No. Dacor says the probe must come out for broil and for self-clean, and it only takes targets from 100°F to 200°F.
A control key has read as pressed for a full minute. Water on the panel is the usual cause. Dry the glass, wait and restart. If the code returns on a dry panel, the touch control needs testing.
02

Power and settings

A 12-hour energy saving setting ends a bake after 12 hours and a broil after 3. That is a setting, not a fault, and a slow roast that needs longer has to be restarted by hand.
Lockout only engages with the oven in standby and below 400°F. It locks the door as well as the keys.
A 50 amp circuit. The double model draws 11.2 kW at 240V or 8.4 kW at 208V, while the single runs on 30 amps at 5.6 kW or 4.2 kW. We compare the rating label with the breaker before blaming the oven for trips.
Its rated draw drops at 208V, to 4.2 kW against 5.6 kW for a single, so it simply has less power to work with.
Not usually. C-20 means the oven sensor is open or shorted, and C-21 means internal heat ran abnormally high. Both call for testing parts with the power off, so stop using the oven and book a visit.
