Frigidaire ice maker repair on Oahu
Plastic in the ice is a recall question first. In 2024 CPSC listed about 383,240 Frigidaire side-by-sides built 2015 to 2019 whose Slim Ice bucket part could break off into the cubes.

How should a Frigidaire ice maker start up?
Right line
Run cold water through 1/4 inch OD copper or braided stainless. Frigidaire warns off plastic tubing and self-piercing saddle valves.
Prime it
Hold a glass at the dispenser until water flows, about 1 1/2 minutes, then keep it running roughly four more minutes.
Give it a day
Little or no ice in the first 24 hours is expected. Trapped air can cause two or three empty cycles.
Dump batch one
The first cubes can look off-color or taste odd. Throw them out before you call anything a fault.
The Frigidaire ice level arm and its recall
The plastic signal arm stops ice production when the bin is full. Frigidaire says it is not an off switch. On some 2020 to 2022 units the arm itself was the problem. In June 2022 CPSC announced about 367,500 refrigerators, 13 Frigidaire models and one Electrolux, sold April 2020 to March 2022, whose ice level arm could snap into the bucket. There were 185 reports. Check the label on the right interior wall of the fresh food section before paying for a new arm.
Does Oahu water hurt a Frigidaire ice maker?
Rarely the water itself. Oahu's public supply has historically tested soft to moderately hard, according to an older USGS summary. Frigidaire's warning is about equipment: a water softener that is not working properly can release chemicals that harm the ice maker. The usual culprit here is the line: a kinked plastic tube behind a fridge in a tight condo kitchen starves the valve.
