Wolf cooktop repair: induction, electric and gas

Wolf does not sell the glass of an electric or induction cooktop on its own. A replacement top arrives with the keyboard already attached. That shapes every glass repair we quote, along with the codes and burner faults Oahu owners call about.

Induction codes

What a Wolf induction code is telling you

CI and CT induction tops use different code sets. Read the series off the unit, then find the code below.

CodeSeriesMeaningOwner stepWhen to book
3 or 03CIWater or a pan resting on the glass over the controlsClear and wipe that area, then breaker off for 30 secondsTone or lines stay on a dry, empty top
E22CIA stuck key, often a utensil on the controls of an unlocked topClear the pad, then a 30-second breaker resetIt returns with nothing touching the keys
E47CILIN communication errorA 30-second breaker resetThe code survives the reset
E4CTGenerator 3 heatsink overheatedLet the cooktop cool fullyIt trips again during normal cooking
E8, E41CTE8: lost link to generator 1. E41: shorted burner sensorNote the code and which zone failedEither one, since both point to internal parts
Glass damage

Can a cracked Wolf glass top be fixed?

No. Cracks, pits and scratches in a Wolf glass top cannot be patched, so the top is replaced. Whether the warranty pays depends on the cause. A crack from normal use during the warranty term is covered, while one from a dropped pot or another outside force is not. If a crack reaches a burner or the controls, stop cooking on it and switch the breaker off until it is looked at. Small chips at the edge still deserve a look before they spread.

Gas burners

A Wolf burner that keeps clicking

1

Dry it

A wet burner after cleaning or a boil-over sparks until it dries. A hair dryer on low gets it there faster.

2

Pause

If a burner has not lit after 10 seconds, turn it off and wait a full minute before trying again.

3

Turn it down

An oversized pan can starve the flame of air. Lower the setting and see whether the clicking stops.

4

Check polarity

Constant sparking with every knob off can be an outlet polarity problem. That needs a meter and a technician, not more cleaning.

01

Induction and glass

The cooktop's electronics went past 158°F (70°C) while you were cooking. Wolf points to the installation and the ventilation under the cooktop, and to running the hood to carry heat away. One F7 on a long, hot cook can happen; repeat codes usually mean the airflow around the unit needs a look.
Wolf advises against it, though setting a hot pan straight from the oven on the glass does no harm.
Use a razor scraper rather than letting it set, because sugary spills can pit the glass. For routine cleaning, about one teaspoon of non-abrasive ceramic-glass cream on a cool top is enough.
They are often minerals left by evaporated water, and Wolf says a water softener can reduce them. Oahu's public water has historically tested soft to moderately hard, so the spots vary from home to home. Cleaning cream lifts them; a scratch that looks white is a different thing and will not come off.
No. A sample, part 816316, ships with each electric and induction model, but any brand of glass cooktop cream is fine.
02

Gas burners and installs

It is on Wolf's checklist for a new unit. Homes on Oahu's gas pipelines get utility gas, while homes off the lines run on propane tanks, so the cooktop must match what the house has. The same list asks you to confirm the cooktop has power, since the igniters are electric, that no foil lines the burner pan, and that the igniters are clean.
No. The caps and rings carry a painted enamel finish, so wash them by hand, leave the rings in place, and clear clogged ports with a dry toothbrush, toothpick or paper clip. Hot spills left to bake on can stain that enamel for good.
No, bleach discolors the stainless, while ammonia, white vinegar or rubbing alcohol are fine on stains.
Only for unframed CT models: 806316 for 36 inch and 806302 for 30 inch. For CE or CI models, Wolf suggests tracing the cooktop itself.
That is usually code 3: water or a pan over the controls.
