GE oven and range repair that starts with the display
A backwards C on a GE oven display is not an error. It means Sabbath Mode is on, and an oven in that mode ignores the keypad. Plenty of GE codes work like that, so we read the display before we price anything.

Which part does a GE F code point to?
| Code | What GE says it usually means | What it means for the repair |
|---|---|---|
| F0, F1, F6, F7 | A keypanel problem, often a keypanel that needs replacing | Touch pads and their ribbon cable get tested first |
| F5, F8, FF | The electronic control | A board job, after the wiring to it is ruled out |
| F350 | The upper cooling fan circuit, or something blocking that fan | Fan, its wiring and any debris near it |
| FD | The meat probe or its receptacle | The probe and the socket in the oven wall get checked before any board |
| F96, F97, F7X | An internal component | Needs a model-specific diagnosis |
| F2, F3, F9 and others | Temperature limit, sensor, door lock | Covered on our GE appliance repair page |
What GE tells you to do when an F code appears
Press Cancel
The current 600 and 700 Series manual starts here. Cancel the code and let the oven cool before you try again.
Cut power
If the code repeats, cut all power for at least 30 seconds. GE's support article suggests a minute or two at the breaker.
Breaker off
Still there? GE suggests leaving the range off at the breaker until service, switching it on only to use the cooktop.
Note the code
Write the code and the model number down. The label sits behind the oven door or the drawer.

GE oven quirks that are normal
GE lists these in its manuals and support pages as normal or as a setting, not a fault. Ruling them out first can save a visit.
OFF on the display
The oven is too hot to set self-clean, or still too hot to bake after a self-clean cool-down.
LOC or ERR shows
LOC is Child Lockout, toggled by holding Lock Control 3 seconds. ERR is just an invalid entry.
Fan runs after shutoff
On some models a cooling fan keeps running after the oven is off to cool internal parts.
Clicking while baking
Relays switch the elements on and off to hold temperature. Crackling is metal heating and cooling.
Rainbow tint on glass
The inner door glass carries a heat barrier coating. Under some light it looks tinted.
Oven shut itself off
A 12-hour auto shut-off setting ends long cooks. It can be switched off in Settings.
