GE appliance repair on Oahu

GE Appliances dates its start to 1907 and builds at five US plants, with Appliance Park in Louisville as headquarters. On Oahu we repair GE refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers and ovens, and each one has its own page below.

Is it the GE dryer or the duct?

Often the duct. GE gives owners of electric models a simple test: pull the duct off the back of the dryer and run one or two loads. If long dry times go away, the duct is the problem and the dryer is fine. Never try this on a gas dryer. The full duct rules, the gas-dryer reasons and the heat checks are on our GE dryer repair page.

GE problems we hear about most

GE sells more appliance types than most makers, so calls range from laundry rooms to wall ovens. These six come up again and again. Each GE product page linked below goes deeper on one appliance.

Dryer runs long

Check the duct type and length against GE's rules first. Crushed foil behind the dryer is a usual culprit; see GE dryer repair.

Oven shows F3

That code normally means the oven sensor. Note it before you switch the breaker off and on.

Oven door stays locked

F9 or FC points at the lock circuit. A locked door after self-clean needs a cool-down first; see GE oven repair.

Ice maker stopped

On a GE fridge, supply pressure and the filter come before the ice maker itself. Our GE refrigerator page covers both.

Dishwasher shows a C code

GE uses C codes for drain and water faults. The GE dishwasher page lists what each one means.

Top loader stops mid-cycle

Some GE help messages freeze the controls for a few minutes. The GE washer page explains which ones.

01

Serial numbers and warranty

Haier. The company now calls itself GE Appliances, a Haier company, after it was bought from General Electric, and the GE name itself still belongs to the General Electric Company.
Look at the first two letters: the first is the month and the second is the year.
GE reuses its year letters about every 12 years, so AD can be January 2002 or January 2014. To settle it, GE points owners to the print date beside the publication number in the owner's manual, written like 02-20 for February 2020. A unit that has been in the house for years is usually the older reading.
GE counts from the purchase date, shown by a sales invoice, a builder's letter or other proof of occupancy. With none of those, it falls back on the manufacture date coded in the serial number. For a new Oahu condo, the builder's letter is often the easiest proof to find.
No, GE says a gas dryer must always vent outdoors, never into a garage, closet or attic space.

The company

GE lets only one cavity self-clean at a time, and neither will start while it is still hot from cooking.
Yes. GE and GE Profile model numbers always begin and end with a letter, which helps when a tag is half worn off.
GE names five US plants: Louisville, Kentucky for washers, dryers, dishwashers and refrigerators; Decatur, Alabama for refrigerators; LaFayette, Georgia for cooking; Selmer, Tennessee for refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners; and Camden, South Carolina for water heaters. Headquarters is Appliance Park in Louisville, opened in 1951, and its first shipment, a load of dryers, left in 1953.
Monogram, its luxury line, plus Café, GE Profile, Haier and Hotpoint. We work on all of them.
GE credits its Louisville engineers with the self-cleaning oven in 1963, the through-the-door ice and water dispenser in 1969, the over-the-range microwave in 1978 and a dishwasher with auto soil sensing in 1995. Several of those are now common across brands, which is why parts from those systems show up on so many repair calls.
