JennAir cooktop repair for downdraft, gas and induction
In November 2004, about 1,170 Jenn-Air JGD8348CDP downdraft gas cooktops were recalled. Maytag had built them that January to September, with switches too close to the grill burner gas tube. We repair JennAir gas, radiant and induction cooktops.

Why a JennAir gas burner sparks but will not catch
| Cause | How you can tell | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Control Lockout | It switched on by itself after the power went out and came back | Hold the lock key for 3 seconds |
| Knob setting | The knob has been turned past Ignite | Bring it back to Ignite and hold it there until the flame takes |
| Moisture after cleaning | Trouble began right after a wipe-down | Point a hair dryer on its cool setting at the knob shaft |
| Cap out of place | Flame uneven, or missing on one side | Match the marks on the cap and its base so it sits flush |
| Blocked ports | Gaps in the ring of flame | A straight pin, needle or fine wire, without widening the holes |
| Downdraft pull | Flames waver only while the vent runs | Drop the blower speed or turn the burner up |
How do you set the JennAir downdraft fan speed?
With one key, 3 SPEED, on electronic touch models. Tap it once for high, twice for medium, three times for low. Hold the same key for about 4 seconds and the fan switches to Automatic, which shuts it off after 10 minutes. So a fan that stops by itself may simply be on Automatic. A fan that never starts at any speed is a different story, and the blower housing under the counter is where we look.
Sounds and codes from a JennAir induction top
Induction cooktops talk back. Most of what a JennAir induction surface shows or makes noise about is the pan, not the cooktop. These six are the ones JennAir explains, and only a repeat after the simple fix calls for a visit.
U u on a zone
The pan is not induction-ready, sits off-center, or is the wrong size for that zone.
Zone turns off
When no pan is found within 30 seconds, the zone shuts itself off. That is built in.
Low hum
Heard at high power. It fades once you lower the setting, and is no sign of a fault.
Crackling
Multi-layer pans can vibrate on the field and crackle. The cookware makes the sound, not the cooktop.
Endless beeping
Something is resting on the control panel. Move the pan, towel or utensil and the beeping stops.
Pan stays cold
Try a fridge magnet on the base. If it grips firmly, the pan will work on induction.
