Miele oven and steam oven repair

A Miele combi-steam oven counts every steam program toward its next descale and shows the uses left on the display. When that count runs out, the oven disables itself until it is descaled. On a dead DGC, that is our first check.

Which Miele oven do you have?

Your Miele oven model sets the fault list: plain convection, Moisture Plus or full combi-steam. Each one fails in its own way.

Miele oven messages we see most

Miele shows faults as text or as an F number, and its en-US manuals publish only a few. These six cover the wall ovens and the combi-steam models we get called about.

Fault F32

The Self Clean door lock never engaged. Turn the oven off and on and restart the cycle; a repeat needs service.

Fault F33

The lock will not release after Self Clean. If switching off and on does not free it, the lock mechanism needs work.

Max. op. hours reached

The oven ran unusually long and the safety shut-off tripped. Confirm with OK and it is usable again.

F10 on a steam oven

The pickup hose inside the water tank is loose or crooked. Seat it so it hangs straight down.

F11 or F20

Blocked drain hoses. Miele's first step is a full descale; if the code comes back, book a visit.

Steam leaking at the door

Check that the door seal is pressed in evenly all round. A cracked seal is replaced, not patched.

Combi-steam care

Descaling a Miele combi-steam oven

1

Watch the count

Only steam programs count. Descale when the remaining uses appear, not after the last one, because the oven locks out at zero.

2

Mix tablets

Two Miele Descaling Tablets go into lukewarm water up to the marker. Miele warns that acids other than citric acid can damage the oven.

3

Stay with it

Do not switch off midway or it starts over. The tank is rinsed and refilled twice and the condensate container emptied when asked.

4

Dry out

Wait for Steam reduction to clear, then empty, clean and dry both containers and leave the door open while the cavity cools.

Wall ovens

The runners carry a coating made to survive Self Clean, and it drags. Miele's fix is a little oven-safe cooking oil rubbed on with kitchen paper, repeated after every Self Clean.
A 25 W G9 halogen; the manual names "Osram 66725 AM/A". Cut the power, lift the cover off with the supplied tool, and never touch the new lamp with bare fingers.
The power was off for more than 150 hours, so the date and time need setting again.
On the temperature setting it stops once the cavity drops below approx. 160°F; on the time setting, after about 25 minutes. It is there to stop moisture collecting in the oven, the controls and the cabinet, which Miele says condensation can damage. In a humid Oahu kitchen, leave the run-on alone.
On the front frame, visible once the door is open, with the model, serial number and connection data.

Steam and combi-steam

Set it to your actual water, not the factory default of 21°dH. Miele's own table puts 121 ppm at a setting of 7 and 107 ppm at 6, and USGS data from 1969-1985 found Hawaii public supplies generally below 120 mg/L. A setting harder than your water brings the descale count around sooner than needed. Silica in island water still leaves scale, so do not skip descaling.
Only if the treated water keeps a conductivity of at least 100 μS/cm, which usually means leaving hardness at 3.1 gpg (3°dH) or more. The steam generator senses its fill level through that conductivity. Distilled, mineral or carbonated water is out.
If the new home sits 984 ft or more higher or lower, the boiling point changed, and a descale resets it.
It ran past the longest time allowed on one function and shut off for safety; switch it off and on and it is ready again.
Yes. Miele says the hum is water being pumped through the system, and a fan keeps clearing steam for a while after switch-off. A grinding noise, or a control panel that will not lift, is different: the panel has an obstruction sensor, and a problem that keeps coming back needs a visit.
