Samsung refrigerator repair

A Samsung fridge reading OF OF or O FF is not broken. It is in Cooling Off mode, the setting stores use for display units. Hold the top two left-side buttons for 5 to 8 seconds and cooling comes back.

Samsung's own ice check

Running the Samsung ice maker test button

1

Freezer temp

The freezer must reach 0°F before any Samsung ice maker works. That holds even when the ice maker sits in the fresh food side.

2

Time the water

Fill 6 ounces (3/4 cup) from the dispenser. Under 10 seconds means the line meets Samsung's 20 psi minimum.

3

Hold test

Press the test button until it chimes, up to 10 seconds. It runs about 6 minutes on fridge-side units, about 30 seconds on freezer units.

4

Watch fill

A good test ends with the valve filling the tray. No water at that point moves the search to the supply and the valve.

Side-by-side installs

Two water lines on the RS27T and RS22T

Some Samsung side-by-sides take water through two separate connections, and Samsung names the RS27T and RS22T. Swap them during an install or a move and neither ice nor water dispenses properly. It looks like a failed valve. It is not. While the back is open, check the filter date too: Samsung sets a six-month interval, and on standard models the indicator resets when Filter Reset is held for three seconds.

01

Cooling and codes

Rule out Cooling Off mode first by looking for OF OF on the panel; if it is not that, the general causes are ranked on our refrigerator not cooling page.
It cools the fresh food and freezer sides separately. Samsung's spec sheet claims humidity up to 3.6 times higher than single cooling, and says the drier freezer air means less freezer burn. A fault on one side does not always show on the other, so tell us which section is warm.
On the RF28MFEDES8, about 10 lbs a day, with a bucket that holds 4.2 lbs.
The ice bucket is out of place, so seat it fully and the blinking stops.
Only when Samsung's code guide tells you to for that code, as it does for 22E and the voltage codes. Otherwise leave it running, because the stored code is what points to the fault.
02

Ice, water and power

Under voltage and over voltage. Samsung's step is to cut power for 60 seconds and then restore it. If the code comes back, the outlet and the unit both need checking.
A communication error, and Samsung says reseating the door wire harness often fixes it. If it returns, the harness or a board needs testing.
The RF28MFEDES8 is ENERGY STAR rated at 625 kWh a year, CEE Tier 1. That figure matters more here than on the mainland: in July 2026 a kWh cost about 2.6 times the U.S. average in Hawaii. A failing fan or a leaking gasket that keeps the compressor running long adds to that bill every month, so fixing it early pays.
Yes. A gasket gap is one of the reasons Samsung gives for an iced freezer fan and a 21E, so a worn seal is worth replacing before the code repeats.
While the maker's published warranty applies, that is usually the first call; our warranty repair page explains how it fits with an outside repair.
