GE refrigerator and fridge repair
Hold a measuring cup under a GE dispenser for 20 seconds. Under 8 ounces is weak flow, and GE looks at the filter, supply tubing, saddle valve and house pressure before the fridge itself.

Two pressure figures and where each one comes from
GE does not print one pressure number for every fridge. Its support article and its current bottom-freezer manual disagree, so the right figure depends on the model.
| Figure | Value | GE source | Applies to | What we do with it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pressure, filtered | 40 to 120 psi | Required water pressure support article | GE refrigerators with a filter | Default figure when the manual is missing |
| Pressure, filtered | 25 to 120 psi | Current bottom-freezer owner's manual | XWFE filter models | Used when the model matches that manual |
| Pressure, no filter | 20 to 120 psi | Required water pressure support article | Models running without a filter | Rarely the case in a filtered home |
| Dispenser flow | 8 ounces in 20 seconds | Water flow test article | Door dispensers | Less than that starts the supply checks |
| Filter life | 170 to 200 gallons | Replacing the water filter article | All GE filter families | Or six months, whichever comes first |
Why a GE fills the ice maker but not your glass
When ice keeps coming but the door gives nothing, GE's first suspect is a frozen reservoir or water tube. It usually means the fridge is set too cold. Raise the setting a little and give it 24 to 48 hours to thaw. A clogged filter can do the same thing, which is why the flow test above matters. Only after both are ruled out do we open panels to look at valves and tubing.
GE fridge signs and what they mean
Some of what looks like a broken GE refrigerator is the machine doing what its manual describes. These six come from GE's own documents. For problems shared by every brand, the generic pages below go further.
Fridge went silent
The manual's first check is defrost. Wait about 30 minutes for the cycle to end before calling.
New fridge, no ice
A new GE bottom-freezer can take 12 to 24 hours before the first cubes drop.
Sputtering dispenser
Normal after a filter change. GE says to run 1 to 2 gallons through to push the air out.
"tc" on the display
That is TurboCool, set by holding its button 3 seconds. It speeds the fresh food side only.
Steady beeping
The door alarm sounds after a door stays open 2 minutes. Check for a drawer or bin holding it.
Loose freezer handle
On some 36 inch French door models this is a recall issue, not a repair. See the FAQ below.
