Thermador cooktop repair for gas and induction
Turned between LO and XLO, the two left burners on a Thermador SGSX cooktop switch the flame on and off every minute, about 53 seconds lit and 7 out near LO. That is design, not a fault. We repair the rest.

Thermador cooktop behavior the manual explains
| What you notice | What the manual says | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A click or two when the power comes back | Igniters may do this as they reset | Nothing |
| An odd spark on a low flame | Occasional sparking at low settings is normal | Nothing |
| Sparking that never stops, or sparks with no flame | A wet or dirty igniter can cause both | Let it dry; book a visit if it keeps on |
| Orange flame on a fresh install | Particles in a new gas line, which should fade | Watch it; a flame that never turns blue needs a look |
| Burner lights unevenly or not at all | The porcelain cap may be out of place | Reseat the cap and try again |

What should I check on a Thermador cooktop first?
Start with the gas valve: is it open? Then look at each porcelain cap and make sure it sits flat on its burner. Clear any blocked port with a fine wire or a straightened paper clip, and give a wet igniter time to dry. Thermador also lists a draft in the room, and an outlet that is not grounded or has reversed polarity, among the things to rule out. If all of that checks out, the problem is likely inside the cooktop.
Does propane change a Thermador cooktop?
In small ways, yes. Homes beyond the utility gas pipelines on Oahu cook on propane from a tank, and Thermador's manual notes the soft pop an XLO burner makes as it cycles off is louder on propane. Tell us which gas you have before the visit. Power counts as well. When the island grid goes down, automatic reignition stops working, and the two XLO burners cannot be lit with a match at all.
